This page provides a summary of the benefits of our home insurance cover. For more details on levels of home insurance cover and exclusions, please read our policy documents.
Cover type | Level of cover |
---|---|
Buildings |
With Hiscox Buildings Insurance, depending on your circumstances, you may get unlimited cover for your home. For certain claims, such as tracing and repairing a leak, there's a maximum amount we'd pay. However, the cover we provide is still higher than most other home insurance policies. We cover the costs of repairing or replacing damage or loss to your buildings on an ‘all risks’ basis. Instead of only being covered for a limited list of risks, you're covered for anything that's not excluded in your policy documents. |
Contents |
With Hiscox Contents Insurance, depending on your circumstances, you may get unlimited cover for your general contents. You only need to list any items, pairs or sets worth £15,000 or more and give us a total value for any jewellery, art and collections. For certain claims, such as the loss of money while away from home, there's a maximum amount we'd pay. However, the cover we provide is still higher than most other home insurance policies. We protect your contents against loss and damage on an ‘all risks’ basis. Instead of only being covered for a limited list of risks, you're covered for anything that's not excluded in your policy documents. |
Jewellery and watches | We provide tailored cover for any jewellery, watches and gold you may own to make sure you get the right level of protection. Simply tell us how much cover you need in total and list any items, pairs or sets that are worth £15,000 or more. |
Art and collections | We provide £10,000 of cover as standard for all your art and collections, and tailored cover if the total value of your art and collections exceeds £10,000. Plus, there's no need to list individual items, pairs or sets - you only have to tell us about items worth £15,000 or more. |
Worldwide cover | Your belongings are covered away from home for up to 60 days at a time. Worldwide cover is unlimited, with the exception of certain items such as unattended bags and luggage away from home for which there is a maximum amount we will pay. |
New possessions |
With our unlimited cover you don't need to tell us about new purchases as they’re already included - you only have to let us know about new items worth £15,000 or more. If you acquire a new piece of jewellery or a watch, just let us know the new total value of all your jewellery and watches. Similarly, if you acquire a new piece of art or a collection that takes your total to over £10,000, simply let us know the new total value of all your art and collections. |
New for old | New for old cover is provided as standard, meaning we don’t make any reductions for wear and tear. |
Accidental damage |
This provides cover for damage caused by accident. We define an accident as something which happens suddenly, is unexpected and is either unintentional or has unintended consequences – such as kicking a football through your window, spilling paint on your carpet or dropping your watch on a stone floor. It covers accidents caused by anyone insured by this policy and by third parties. It applies to your buildings, contents, and art and collections – plus your jewellery and watches if you've asked us to insure these for you. |
Accidental loss |
This provides cover for items which have been accidentally lost. We define an accident as something which happens suddenly, and which is unexpected and unintentional – such as having your wedding ring slip off your finger, losing an earring from your ear or leaving a bag on a train that cannot be recovered. It applies to your contents, art and collections – plus your jewellery and watches if you've asked us to insure these for you. |
Theft from outbuildings | We provide £10,000 of cover for theft from sheds, garages, barns and stables, subject to the exclusions in the policy documents. |
Garden cover | We pay up to £10,000 for garden furniture and outdoor equipment left outside. We restore loss or damage to your garden up to £25,000, including for fly-tipping and up to £1,000 for any one tree or shrub. We also cover physical loss or damage to fences, apart from loss or damage caused by falling trees, storm or flood. |
Tracing a leak | We provide £15,000 of cover for the costs of tracing and repairing a water or fuel leak within your home and making good any damage caused by these repairs. We also cover water leaks from the underground service pipes serving your home up to £10,000. |
Students away from home | We provide cover for loss or damage caused by theft to the belongings of all student family members, when violence or force has been used to enter or leave their accommodation. |
Bicycles | We provide unlimited cover for bikes at home and £3,500 per bike while away from home providing it's locked to a fixed structure or within a locked building. If you have a bike worth more than this, just call and tell us how much extra cover you need. |
Money | You are covered up to £2,500 for theft or loss of money, at home and while away from home. |
Lost keys and replacement locks | We provide unlimited cover for the cost of changing locks if you lose the keys to outside doors, windows, safes and alarms of your home. |
Moving house | Tell us that you're moving and your possessions will receive the same level of cover while they're in transit as when they're in the home. Please note Hiscox must provide home insurance for your current home and be the home insurance provider of your new home for this to apply. |
No hidden charges | Unlike many insurance providers, we never charge any fees for cancelling or making any changes to your policy. |
